Good to know
- Why tag the links on my profile?
- Without tags, visits from your Business Profile look like any other Google search visit. Tagged, Google Analytics shows them as their own campaign (gbp), so you can see how many visitors and enquiries your profile sends, and from which button.
- Why source google and medium organic?
- Your profile is part of Google's free results, so these settings keep the visits in GA4's Organic Search channel where they belong. A made-up source such as "gbp" would move them into "Unassigned". The campaign and content tags tell them apart.
- Where do I see the results in Google Analytics?
- In GA4, open Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition and change the table's first column to Session campaign. Visits from your profile show as gbp (or gbp-your-location). Add Session manual ad content to see which button they used.
- Does a tagged link hurt my ranking?
- There's no evidence it does: it's the same page with labels added after the question mark. Make sure the page has a canonical tag pointing to its plain address; most website builders add one.
- What won't this measure?
- Calls, direction requests and messages that happen in Google Maps or Search without a visit to your website. Your Business Profile's own Performance report counts those.
- I have several locations. What should I do?
- Link each profile to its own location page if you have one, and fill in the location name: each location then gets its own campaign, such as gbp-dallas-north.
